The goal of Carak and his accomplices is to bringto the surface the most dangerous mutants living on the lower floor. It seems contradictory, but there is surely a link between their willingness to blow up Nimbus' tunnel and their plan. The simplest thing would be to make me disappear without doing what they have asked you and try to learn what's going on afterwards. I can hide for a while and contact you a bit later.
