Unless you are an exceptional archer, combat with a winged creature can be an insurmountable challenge. Therefore you decide to descend the tower in hope of avoiding the confrontation. Unfortunately, the entry to the tower is also under surveillance.
Once your adversaries are vanquished, you need to have the time to flee before the wyverns become aware of your strategy.
