It would not be wise to send someone at the bottom of the well before knowing what can be found there. Perhaps a monster made from decaying waste hides itself there. So you have to build a mechanism that will allow you to lower a torch or lamp and have some control over the direction of its rays. An hour later you test your system. While descending the light source, you see a cavity halfway. You use a rope to get to that height and you search the cache.
